Radio remote controls are becoming a popular choice for the operation of overhead cranes. This system consists of a hand-held transmitter and a bridge mounted receiver unit A “wireless” system allows for unrestricted movement of the operator and the ability to operate the crane while staying well clear of the load. More sophisticated operations call for variable frequency or vector type controls. Norelco has installed this type of stepless control on large capacity hydro powerhouse cranes where the accurate positioning of large turbine rotors is critical.
